PAST progress monitoring form: With all the buzz surrounding the newest Kilpatrick book, Equipped for Reading Success, I was so excited to hear him speak at the ALTA Conference in 2019. I had already started to dig into the book but listening to Kilpatrick share pertinent information about the importance of advanced phonemic awareness tasks and orthographic mapping resonated with me.
Since then, I have been using the 1-minute practices with my students at varying levels of scaffolding. Previously I was doing these tasks, but not recording student responses in regards to the automaticity needed for moving students forward in the phonological deficit area that transfers to reading.
After trying different ways to track progress with my students, I created this simple monitoring tool. This progress monitoring form has become an easy way for me to track progress and note instructional scaffolding needed for each of the levels associated with the 1-minute drills. I made it with enough space to write down if a child was needing to use Manipulatives, fingers, etc. Plus room for me to note observations. This has been so helpful for my planning purposes and in moving students forward and I wanted to share this form with you as well! You can find it in the download section of this library.
If you haven’t seen the PAST test, it is free for you to use to assess student phonological awareness. I have linked it below for you.
